National Grid collapses second time in 24 hours

The latest incident comes barely 24 hours after electricity distribution companies across the country announced the grid collapsed around 6:48 p.m, resulting in the loss of power supply across their networks.

The latest incident comes barely 24 hours after electricity distribution companies across the country announced the grid collapsed around 6:48 p.m, resulting in the loss of power supply across their networks.

“Dear valued customer, kindly be informed that there was a system collapse at 09:17hrs which has resulted to a loss of power supply across our network,” Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) which serves some parts of Lagos State said on its X handle.

“We are currently working with our partners as we hope for a speedy restoration of the grid. We will keep you updated as soon as power is restored. Kindly bear with us.”

Similarly, the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company confirmed the fresh collapse and promised the restoration of normalcy as soon as possible.

“Dear Esteemed Customers, We sincerely apologise for the power outage in our franchise states since yesterday evening. This is as a result of the. collapse of the national grid which occurred at about 18:05 pm on Monday, October 14th,” the Kaduna DisCo said.

“The team at the Transmission Company of Nigeria are making efforts to restore supply back to the grid after which we shall restore to customers across all our franchise. We deeply regret any inconvenience this may have caused.”

However, the Abuja Disco announced that it was conducting a maintenance exercise on some parts of the Federal Capital Territory.

“Dear valued customer, this is to inform customers in Arab Road, FO-1 Community, Dutse Makaranta, Kagini, Brick City Estate, Custom Quartes, SPDC Estate, Kabba, Mopol Baracks and Hospital, Mami Market, Angwan Fulani, Monkey Village, DSS Training School, Public Service College, Charley Boy Gate, Mab Global Estate, Ipent Estate and its environs that the Transmission Company of Nigeria will be conducting a maintenance exercise on the 33KV Dam feeder and the 33KV deidei feeder from 10am to 6pm on Wednesday, October 16, 2024.

“We regret any inconvenience this may cause and assure you that this exercise is essential to ensure better service delivery. Thank you.”

On Monday, the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) also told its customers about the “general system collapse that occurred at 18:48 hours today, 14th October, 2024. This has resulted in the loss of supply currently being experienced across the EEDC network.

“Consequently, due to this development, all our interface TCN stations are out of supply, and we are unable to provide services to our customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States.”
