Nigeria Army organize seminar for social media handlers

The Nigeria Army has organised seminar for social media handlers in Zamfara State with the theme, “Enhancing National Security through the Responsible Use of Social Media.”

Speaking during at the seminar, the special guest of honour, Major General Godwin Mutkut, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 8 Division Sokoto, who is also the and also Commander of the Joint Taskforce Operation Hadarin Daji, reiterated determination of the military to enhance mutual cooperation and understanding with civil society.

This also include enhancing understanding with particularly the social media flat forms and conventional media which has become inevitable in modern day means of information dissemination in fighting various kinds of crimes.

He said the military had designed various strategies in engaging all stakeholders to assist the armed forces with useful and correct information in discharging its responsibility and core mandate to the society.

He appealed to social media handlers to always be careful on the information they dished out to people particularly as it affects security issues as any wrong information could lead security breach.

Also in his speech at the occasion, the Director Civil Military Affairs Defence Headquarters, Major General Nosakhare Ugbo, said the seminar was the 34th edition in series of seminars organised to improve civil military cooperation and to enhance better understanding on the need to always disseminate content that could enhance the security lives of the citizens.

He said his department would continue to educate civil society especial social media handlers and media, to appreciate effort of the military in combating crimes so they can lend their support with unbiased reports or information that could assist the military on rules of engaging the civil society.

He called on the social media handlers to always verify their source of their information before releasing them to the public .

He further said the military was now better equipped with skills to handle any issues as it affects civil military relationship and it will continue to improve.
