Osun West by-election was contest between APC and APC won by APC, Ondo APC declares
A twist of event may have occurred over Osun West senatorial election contested by Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke and Mudashir Hussain as Ondo State Chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) says the by-election held on Saturday was not won by People’s Democratic Party (PDP) but APC.
The party said the by-election was a contest between the APC and the APC and was won by the APC.
Mr. Ademola Adeleke of the PDP won the by-election, defeating the APC candidate, Mr. Mudashiru Hussain.
The Acting Chairman of the APC in Ondo State, Mr. Ade Adetimehin, made this claim on Monday at the party’s secretariat in Akure, the state capital, while receiving some members of the Peoples Democratic Party who defected to the APC.
Adetimehin said, “The last Saturday senatorial by-election in Osun West Senatorial District was between the APC and the APC.
“The victory recorded in the election was not for the PDP but for the aggrieved members of the APC in the state.”
Meanwhile, Hussain has described the Saturday poll which his opponent, Adeleke, won as a free and fair contest.
Hussain, who represented the senatorial district at the Senate between 2011 and 2015, said he would not contest his defeat.
He said this in a text message sent in response to an inquiry by a news medium (not The DEFENDER).
Asked if he would contest the election result in court, Hussain said, “No, the election was free and fair. I am very satisfied with the result. I will not contest it in court.”
