BRICS SUMMIT IN SA: What Shettima presence portends for Nigeria

By JAMIU JULIUS ADEBAYO

Vice President of the Federal Republic Of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima (GCON) representing his boss, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, today, participated in the BRICS summit holding in South Africa. It is my humble opinion that the summit could have several implications for Nigeria.

Description of image

The BRICS summit is an annual gathering of the leaders of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. It serves as a platform for these countries to discuss economic cooperation, development strategies, and global issues.

For Nigeria, the participation of VP Kashim Shettima, presumably representing Nigeria, at the BRICS summit suggests a desire to strengthen ties and explore potential collaborations with these emerging economies. The BRICS countries are known for their growing economic influence and have been actively seeking partnerships with African nations. Nigeria’s presence will definitely excite the emerging economic bloc.

Attending the summit will as a matter of benefits provide Nigeria with opportunities to attract investments, enhance trade relations, and explore avenues for technology transfer and knowledge sharing. The BRICS countries have robust economies and possess expertise in sectors such as infrastructure development, manufacturing, technology, and agriculture, which could be beneficial for Nigeria’s development goals.

Additionally but fundamentally, participating in the BRICS summit allows Nigeria to engage in discussions on global issues, such as climate change, terrorism, and international trade. It provides a platform for Nigeria to voice its concerns, advocate for its interests, and potentially form alliances with like-minded countries.

Overall, attending the BRICS summit in South Africa indicates Nigeria’s willingness to strengthen its ties and develop common interest much as it announces the new government as one interested in developing common business relations with any bloc that protects her interests and guarantees her economic safety.

It’s an interesting and well-conceived idea for Nigeria to participate at the summit and there’s none other to advance our interests than the Vice President whose intellectual acumen remains unparalleled in the league of Vice Presidents.

Nigeria is on her way to prosperity and we will all be alive to witness it.
