NIGERIA: Days of impunity up as police arrests Church pastor with AK-47 on pulpit
Nigeria’s authorities appear to be telling unruly citizens that days of impunity are now up as operatives of Nigerian Police Force have arrested a pastor in Abuja, who was carried AK-47 riffle in his hand, while preaching.
Police in Abuja, the nation’s capital after the arrest, has subsequently detained the pastor, whose church was identified as House on The Rock in Abuja, Pastor Uche Aigbe, for carrying an AK-47 gun to the pulpit.
The Intelligence Response Team (IRT), under the Force Intelligence Bureau (FIB), took Aigbe into custody immediately after his arrest.
A video circulating on social media, showing the cleric carrying an AK-47 rifle while preaching in church on Sunday, had attracted attention of the foremost Nigerian security agency which swung into action investigating until it got the person of the pastor.
Details of the matter were not available to The DEFENDER as at the time of filing this report as only the police can tell what its findings are about it.
According to a media report, however, it was gathered that one Inspector Musa Audu handed his service weapon to Aigbe and the officer was also said to face an orderly room trial.
Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, CP Sadiq Abubakar wanted Audu dismissed for the misconduct.
The CP has made a formal recommendation to the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba.
