Crescent Varsity receives triple awards at 13th Gbagura Day celebrations

Crescent University, Abeokuta has been honoured with distinguished awards of excellence at the 13th Gbagura Day Celebration.

The university received awards in three categories names: corporate awardee and two “Distinguished Public Service Excellence Awards” respectively.

The Founder/Proprietor of the institution, His Excellency Judge Bola Ajibola clinched a Distinguished Public Service Excellence Award while Crescent University Abeokuta bagged a Corporate Award.

Another Distinguished Public Service Excellence Award went to Emeritus Prof. Kamaldeen Olayiwola Balogun who is currently, Dean, College of Arts, Social and Management Sciences of the prestigious institution.

The institution which prides itself as citadel of academic and moral excellence was a cynosure of all eyes as its profile of achievements was being echoed amid applause as the Registrar, Barr. Zakariyya Ajibola received the award on behalf of the university.

Earlier, His Royal Majesty, Oba Saburee Babajide Bakre, Jamolu II, the Agura of Gbagura had bestowed on Crescent University’s founder and former Judge of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), Judge Bola Ajibola, a Distinuished Public Service Excellence Award in recognition of his numerous contributions to the development of law, arbitration, education, social philanthropy and Gbagura Kingdom.

Oba Bakre presented the award in company of His Royal Majesty Oba Prof. Saka Matemilola, the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, to a member of the Board of Trustees of Crescent University, Prince Mahruf Adesegun Ajibola (SAN), who received it on behalf of Judge Bola Ajibola.

In his acceptance speech on behalf of all recipients, Prince Adesegun Ajibola expressed gratitude to Agura and the main organising committee for recognising the legal icon, describing the award as worthy.

He said Judge Ajibola’s numerous achievements went beyond law and arbitration, stressing that locating Federal University of Agriculture, Federal Secretariat and Naval School in Abeokuta by the federal Government, was due to Judge Ajibola’s influence under the Ibrahim Babangida’s administration.

Promising a princely donation on behalf of Crescent University, Prince Adesegun Ajibola lauded the contributions of Oba Saburee Babajide Bakre to Agura Kingdom.

According to the Chairman, Main Organizing Committee, Chief Semiu Oganla, Gbagura Day Celebration is an annual socio-cultural event of the Gbagura Nation organised to celebrate culture and heritage of Gbagura people.
