All required measures are taken to ensure president’s safety — Kremlin spokesman

Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said that all required measures are taken to ensure the president’s safety in any situation.

“As far as the president is concerned, all due measures are taken to ensure his safety in any situation,” Peskov told TASS an interview, while answering a question about the measures being taken in connection with the emergence of a new disease – monkeypox.

“No, no protocols (restrictions in connection with monkeypox – TASS) have been imposed by our sanitary authorities,” Peskov said.

Earlier, he stated that the Kremlin maintained the necessary restrictions adopted during the coronavirus pandemic.

Monkeypox is a rare viral disease that occurs mainly in remote areas in central and western Africa near tropical rainforests.

On June 8, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced that the organization had received confirmations of more than 1,000 cases of monkeypox in 29 non-endemic countries.

As of June 8, there were no cases of monkeypox recorded in Russia. The consumer rights watchdog is taking measures to prevent the infection’s importation.
