We’re with FG on anti-corruption war, transparency advocacy – Governors
*Worried their image going bad
Emerging from a critical meeting they held with the Vice President in the Aso Rock Presidential Villa on Friday, governors of Nigerian states said they were worried that their image had ‘turned upside down’.
Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum, Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara State, said this in an interview with State House reporters after the meeting held at the Banquet Hall of the Villa.
Yari noted that there had been issues, most especially with the bailout funds and the Paris Club refunds.
He stated that, “We discussed how to make the governorship position something worth pursuing for our future generation. The way the image of governors have turned upside down, we are sincerely worried about it and something has to be done.
“It looks like those who are looking for the office are not doing justice to us. So it is important to protect our image, that of the forum and each and every governor. If you are looking for the office of the governor, it does not mean you are going to ridicule the office before you get there.
“It is something that we are all worried about. So, we are going to do something about it. About the issue of transparency and fighting corruption we are all on board, we are not outside the system, what we discovered is that those outside are trying to ridicule the system before they get in.”
