Alhaji Ibrahim Magaji Dosara, the state Commissioner for Information, disclosed this in a statement he sent to The DEFENDER via WhatsApp on Saturday dated 3 December, 2021.

“The government was worried by the conditions of the remand homes and is working on improving their condition to give more attention to welfare and wellbeing of the children in the remand homes.

“The Commissioner of the ministry Hon Lawal Abubakar Zannah has since commenced visitation of the remand homes, assessing their structures and conditions.

“The Social Welfare Commissioner has visited Gusau Remand Home, Disabled Center Gusau, Approved School Bungudu, Anka and Kaura Namoda Remand Home.

“During the inspection visit, Hon. Zannah observed that there are some inmates who supposed to be released to reunite with their parents after spending three years at the rehabilitation centers in accordance with the law, but are still in the centre.

“Reacting to the report, the government under the abled leadership of His Excellency Gov. Bello Mohammed Matawallen Maradun ordered the state Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Barrister Junaidu kaura to immediately constitute a committee with a view to assessing the general conditions of the rehabilitation centers, inmates welfare and the number of those that are due for release for reunification with their families,” Dosara explained.

The DEFENDER reports that the committee set up for this purpose has already started the exercise with Gusau Remand Home.
