Soldier, girlfriend arrested for aiding bandits in Zamfara – Governor

*Says several bandits killed by people defending themselves

A soldier of the Nigerian Army has been arrested for allegedly supplying Army uniforms and ammunitions to the bandits in Zamfara State.

This was disclosed by the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Goveeor, Alhaji Bashir Maru, while reacting to some media reports of 60 people abducted by bandits in Ruwan Tofa District in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

He said the state government was awaiting the Army Command’s reports of its investigation with regards to the matter.

He appealed to journalists and media organizations to always verify their information before going to press.

He reiterated the deterrmination of the state government to always partner with the media organizations to ensure balance in their report on matters requiring urgent verification.

Bashir Maru said several bandits were killed by the Ruwan Tofa people in defending their community but that media report didn’t indicate it.

He reassured journalists the of therediness of the state government to always carry everybody along while discharging its responsibility.

The DEFENDER’s whatsapp enquiry seeking the Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Muhammad Yerima, to react to this was not responded to as at press time.

It will be recalled the governor, Hon. Bello Muhammad Mutawalle, recently said Nigerians would be shocked to know people who were behind the invasion of Government Secondary School Jangebe in Talata Mafara Local Government Area of the state leading to kidnap of 279 schoolgirls, who have all been safely released and reunioned with their families.
