Lauretta Onochie has told why it is only fair that Nigerian consumers of electricity know the owners of electricity companies to whom they are customers.
The Peoples Democratic Party-led Federal Government had sold power after it unbundled PHCN in the last days of its 16-year grip on Nigeria under Goodluck Jonathan administration.
The sale, many have claimed, was shrouded in secrecy as the franchises and assets were allegedly sold though publicly but mainly to friends and members of the political party who bought not to improve but to kill the sector and replace it with their imported generator businesses.
In her comment on Onochie, one of Presidency’s officials that have been holding fast against mischief makers, gave a compiled list of the owners and asked customers to rather knock their doors should they have any quarrel with high tariffs regarding their consumption.
“Owners of Electricity Assets in Nigeria (including the money they paid to the GEJ government). If you have any quarrels with high tariffs, please knock their doors. Drag them and those who sold to them,” she said.
She however reminded the people areas they should raise questions about, “But wait a minute, where are the millions of USD realized from the sale?”
Then she gave a list of the owners as compiled and how much they paid on individual basis to own the power generation and distribution franchises they have been licensed to operate as business entitities:
