“Obaseki was disqualified by someone who doesn’t have a certificate”, Wike spits fire

The action by which Adams Oshiomole’s alleged script, acted by screening and appeal committees of the All Progressives Congress (APC), disqualified Governor Godwin Obaseki from seeking the ticket to contest the September governorship election in Edo State is beginning to escalate.
It took a new dimension Sunday with a statement by Governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike, which lambasted the APC’s national chairman who he said has no certificate for disqualifying a sitting governor.
Although he did not mention name, Governor Wike said via his Twitter handle that, “Obaseki was disqualified by someone who doesn’t have a certificate, what an irony!”
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s tiger, Wike said: “The APC Chairman has the courage to disqualify a sitting Governor because he plans to use the Army & Police to unleash terror on Edo people during the election.”
This he however opined could be happening because, according to him, under the APC as a ruling party, “The Governor’s Forum has become a voiceless beggarly group.”
Obaseki, the only APC governor in Nigeria’s South South geopolitical zone, has become a heart desire of his fellow colleagues, who are PDP governors, made possible by obvious lack of internal democracy that is currently the bane of the ruling party.
If the PDP governors of the region succeed in handing their Edo State governorship ticket to Obaseki, followers of event who have spoken are asking the APC to accept that PDP will by September have finally had a total grip of South South.
Political calculation for 2023, which is also the reason APC leadership tormenting the Edo State governor is doing so, is that once the PDP now has a good capture of South South with Edo now finally in the pocket and South East is already a permanent deal for the leading opposition party, any formidable candidate from the North by PDP will make President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor come from the party.
It will be recalled that an Abuja source had told The DEFENDER Sunday night that winning election by APC for now is not the focus of Oshiomole as he said he was working with the interest he represents within the party, to help rest the APC and then have good reason to pullout to join former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to form a new party ahead of the next transition.
