COVID-19: Journalists, medical personnel, firefighters, others exempted from lockdown related restrictions across Nigeria – IGP
The Nigeria Police Force says Journalists are free from lockdown related restrictions across the country and so they not be harassed by security agents.
This was contained in a Tuesday’s statement by Force Public Relations Officer, Mr. Frank Mba.
According to Mba, a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), all essential workers are exempted from restriction of movement occasioned by the anti-coronavirus fight in the country.
“All essential workers including Medical Personnel, Firefighters, Ambulance Services, Journalists, etc are exempted from the restriction of movement associated with both the partial lockdown and the national curfew across the Federation.
“The Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed A. Adamu has therefore directed all Zonal Assistant Inspectors General of Police and Commands Commissioners of Police to give effect to these exemptions whilst enforcing the restriction orders.”
The DEFENDER reports latest directive by the IGP will finally settle harassment of journalists and other essential workers by some overzealous security agents, especially in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
