Alhaji Aminu Sidi, the Jigawa Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, on Monday said that the state government spent N18 million to obtain license for 25 miner groups in the state.
Sidi, who disclosed this in Dutse, said that the miners who were indigene of the state, now had license to engage in mining activities in any part of the country.
He said that the decision to obtain license for them was in view of the Federal Government’s policy to prosecute illegal miners in the country.
The commissioner said that there were 50 members in each of the 25 groups.
Sidi said that the state government had converted the 25 groups to cooperative societies, adding that more groups had applied for mining license and were soliciting for the government’s assistance.
