BREAKING: 2019 coast clears for Buhari as 7,000 APC delegates ratify, endorse his primary victory with ‘Yes’ affirmation

The APC National Chairman Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, who spoke at the convention, said the ruling Party was ready for 2019 electioneering campaigns. Oshiomhole told the opposition that the campaigns would not be based on religion and ethnicity but rather on issues and records. He said the ruling APC would organize a policy dialogue in few weeks to revisit APC, assess party performance, and draw plans for the next four years.

 

President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, now has the coast cleared for him as National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) finally ratified his recent primary victory and endorsed him for the February 2019 presidential elections.

At the convention, held at the Eagle Square, Abuja on Saturday, report of Friday September 28, 2018 Presidential Primaries of the APC was brought before the 7,000 delegates in attendance at the end of which it was ratified and the President got endorsement to push on to contest the all-important election come February.

Chairman of the Convention Election Committee, Dr John Kayode Fayemi, said during the 7,000-delegate event at the weekend that that President Buhari polled a total of 14,842,072 votes in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in direct presidential primary to elect candidate.

Dr Fayemi, who himself is Governor-elect equally warming up to take over the mantle of leadership of Ekiti State on the 16th of this month of October, said with the results from those elections President Buhari had been confirmed as winner of the primary in line with the provisions of Section 87(6) of amended Electoral Act.

He said the President’s name shall be forwarded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the candidate of the APC for 2019 presidential election.

When Fayemi asked delegates to ratify the votes, they all affirmed the authenticity of the votes by ‘Yes’ affirmation.

Earlier, the Chairman of the National Convention Committee, Senator Ishaq Abiola Ajimobi, had described President Buhari as Waterloo of the opposition.

Ajimobi is currently Governor of Oyo State and senatorial candidate of the APC in the state.

Conspicuously seated next to one another and chatting at the august event, attended by very top party men and government functionaries, were Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), who is immediate past Governor of Lagos State, current Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwumi Ambode and APC Governorship Candidate in Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
