The Battles Against Corruption in Nigeria Group (BACN) has alerted the people of Osun State ahead of Thursday governorship rerun election to watch out for who becomes their governor.
According to the Canada/Nigeria group based in the Canadian capital city of Ontario, it is dangerous to elect someone who is with little or no education as governor of a state.
This was communicated to The DEFENDER via email on Wednesday by President of the group, Mr. Waheed Seriki, who said managing a state that is more than two million people requires more than dancing or showcase of comedy in enticing people, deceptively, that he can carry the burden of running the affairs of the state successfully.
Seriki, who had been in Nigeria until few days ago when he returned to Canada after coming home to prepare his Nigerian members for the 2019 general elections, said unsuccessful WAEC result is not a good credential for someone that is aspiring to be a local government in a state talk less of a governor of more than two million people.
“There is an imminent danger in future if people of Osun State elect someone with little or no education, most especially if the person does not have any record or does not demonstrate that he has a strong knowledge and ability to manage the state, which can be used as a criteria or substitute for his little or no education.
“Managing a state that is more than two million population require more than dancing or showcase of comedy to entice or deceive people that the person can carry the burden and responsibility of running the affairs of the state successfully.
“Managing a state involves proofs of good knowledge of government, ability to think and make firm decisions at the right time, sound management, technical and organizational skill and good education.
“Unsuccessful WAEC result is not a good credential for someone that is aspiring to be a local government in a state, talk less of a governor of more than two million people.
“The administration of a state like Osun needs someone that has wealth of experience, management charismatic and proved to have been tested and trusted either in government or private business.
“Good people of Osun State must be very careful in gambling with the future of their state. Doing that is like playing Canada’s lotto lottery, where player has less than 0.1% rate percent of success.
“I will strongly advice Osun people, that whatever the problem they have with their outgoing governor, they should be careful and think twice before they transfer the power he will leave behind to just anybody, especially somebody whose life history has proved beyond doubts that he may not be a able to deliver good governance that will lead to development and advancement of the Osun State.
“Risk is very dangerous to take in this modern century and era of advanced technology development. It may be very disastrous and dangerous for a state to gamble with their future or the future of their incoming generation because the chance of recovery, if the gamble fails, may not be forthcoming in another twenty years,” he warned.
