Police gun down 2 suspected armed robbers in Ogun
Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command, on Monday, have shot dead two suspected armed robbers in Ijebu-Ode area of Ogun State.
The incident followed an intelligent report received by the Command that a robbery gang from Onitsha had arrived GRA in Ijebu-Ode with a mission to terrorize the good people of the State.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement issued in Abeokuta copy of which was sent to The DEFENDER, said the police immediately followed up the report.
According to him, the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu directed the officer in charge Federal-Special Anti-Robbery Squad, F-SARS, led by Uba Adam to go after the hoodlums and bring them to justice.
In compliance with the order, the PPRO said, the operatives swung into action and accosted them at GRA area of Ijebu-Ode where they engaged in a gun battle which lasted for about 30 minutes.
At the end of the encounter, he said two of the robbers were shot dead while the other two escaped with bullet wounds.
According to him, arms and ammunition including one AK-47 rifle with Breach No-804403, two pump action guns with defaced breach numbers, 57 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, 32 rounds of live cartridges, some assorted charms were recovered from them.
He said an unregistered Toyota Previa bus they used for their operation was also recovered.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police who expressed satisfaction at the gallantry performance of his men has ordered a serious manhunt for the escaped members of the gang.
He equally appealed to hospitals as well as traditional healers to notify the police if anybody with gunshot injury is seen in their area.
