If care is not taken, Nigerians may be on fresh lane of dangerous misinformation coming from Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, who Wednesday raises the alarm on purported “heaving shooting going on in front of Ekiti State Government house by armed policemen brought by the APC.”

Quickly The DEFENDER put a call to Ado-Ekiti by 2.15pm same Wednesday to find out what the situation really was and was told that there was nothing like heavy shooting going in front of the state Government House.

The reliable source close, who is close to the Government House, said, “There is nothing like heavy shooting in front of the Government House.  Yes, there is presence of policemen at already identified flashpoints across Ekiti State and that is what is happening here presently.

“The only thing that looks like shooting was that, some PDP supporters wanted to hold rally at a Pavilion not too far from the Government House but were not given permit and so because they do not have permit, the security who are on guards at those flashpoints refused to allow them into the pavilion.  In attempt therefore to force themselves into the already guarded centre, the policemen there shot teargas which was the only thing that I can confirm to you was the shooting that occurred and can you really call that one heavy shooting?” He said.

The Fayose’s tweet.

Another source corroborated the earlier information but in his own case retorted, “The person who told you there was heavy shooting in Ado-Ekiti today needs to tell you where.  And if it is front of Government House as you said, then he needs to say what do the shooters want to achieve? To overthrow the governor three days to election?  Well, maybe you did not hear well from the  person who told you this but I can tell you that we in Ado-Ekiti today Wednesday July 11, 2018 are not under any security threat.  If you are here now you can see that people are moving about doing their normal businesses,” he said.

Governor Fayose, in his twitter account Wednesday, said “Heavy shooting now going on in front of Ekiti Govt house by armed policemen brought by the APC.”

He then showed a picture of armed men in front of the Ekiti Government house and said: “This is the entrance to Ekiti Govt House now blocked by gun wielding mobile policemen.

“The plan is to prevent our victory walk slated for today but we will remain undeterred. Power of God and the people will prevail over Federal Power.”

In the meantime, a photograph is in the circulation already showing a Governor Ayodele Fayose sitting on bare floor and being rescued in what was being reported to be that the governor “lost consciousness momentarily on Wednesday after policemen reportedly fired teargas into the government house in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

He was said to have been taken to the state house clinic where doctors attended to him.

A respondent has however told The DEFENDER that, “Fayose should take it easy and that what is happening lately is not enough for any chief security office of a state as strong as Ekiti to develop high blood pressure.”

He cited example of day Fayose allegedly used the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police under the Administration of Kayode Fayemi to kill one of Fayemi’s supporters on his convoy then as serving governor while he, Fayose, was then not yet elected but only being candidate of People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

“No amount of blackmails or faked photos will change our resolve to vote out the influence of this governor from Ekiti State, the respondent said on Wednesday.

The governor along with his party, who had sent wrong signals to Ekiti State and other Nigerian people in 48 hours in what The DEFENDER’s investigations can confidently report turned out to be fake, had ordered the state people not to come out to welcome President Muhammadu Buhari who would be visiting the state on Tuesday saying that his coming was to kill the people.

Fayose had also asked commercial transporters in the state go bring their vehicles to the Government House and not work for the Tuesday that President Buhari would visit, so that they would not be killed, promising them that he would pay them N10,000 each for heeding his order.

Although the Ekiti people disobeyed Fayose, whose party coincidentally staged its governorship campaign on the same day President Buhari and APC leaders would be holding mega rally for their party in Ado-Ekiti, the PDP went all out to say that Ekiti State people did not come out to attend the APC rally even it, relying on a purported video clip, said Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, had asked Ekiti people to reject the APC candidate Kayode Fayemi but endorse PDP’s candidate Olusola.
