Yoruba community in Sokoto honours Tambuwal’s SA, others

*Tambuwal only Nigeria’s governor with special treat for non-indigene

The Yoruba community in Sokoto State on Saturday conferred honorary chieftaincy titles on 10 of its sons in the state, including the Special Assistant to Governor Aminu Tambuwal, Chief James Bolorunduro Olorunfemi.

The recipient, who is also President General, Yoruba Community, Sokoto, was bestowed with honorary title of Majekobaje.

Olorunfemi is the representative of Yoruba community of Sokoto State in the Tambuwal Administration being that the governor appoints from among other tribes living in his state to be part of his government.

The event also witnessed the coronation of twelve local chiefs (baales) within Sokoto metropolis saddled with responsibility of settling disputes and maintaining peace among Yoruba residents in their domains.

Speaking on the occasion, the Sarkin Yorubawa Sokoto, Alhaji Abdulfatai Olayiwola Coker, said the recipients were honoured because of their contributions to the development of Yoruba community in the state.

He urged them not to relent in their good deeds and advised others to take part in the community’s activates.

On the rationale behind the appointment of local chiefs (bales), Coker explained that they would help to disseminate vital information that would enthrone peace and delivery of welfare package among their subjects.

“Ladies and gentlemen, what we are celebrating today is in line with our desire to rebrand the affairs of Yoruba people in Sokoto and environs, and a drive to take it to an envious level of other to grossly emulate in northern states of the federation.

“We in oba’s council are not oblivious of the fact that no meaningful development can be incubated without the active participation of the grassroots. So, the establishment of baale councils is an integral of oba’s council in Sokoto,” he explained.

He charged the appointees to work in tandem with other traditional heads in their domains to ensure peaceful coexistence among all tribes.

The special guest, Mr Ayinde Adesola, who spoke on the theme: ‘Unity Among Yoruba and Other Ethnic Groups’, urged the Yoruba residents in the state to continue living in peace and harmony with other ethnic groups.

Moses Ajibade who was conferred with honourary title of Omosakin, on behalf of others, commended the Sarkin Yoruba and his council for the honour done to them.
