Former Head of State General Yakubu Gowon, on Wednesday, called the organizers of a Lecture/Award scheduled to honour the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, Wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, Governor of Sokoto State, Rt. Honourable Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Inspector-General of Police Ibrahim Kpokun Idris, former Minister of Communications General Tajudeen Olanrewaju and others in Abuja.
The former Nigerian ruler, who said he was calling from Enugu, spoke with The DEFENDER as one of the organizers, saying, “I called to tell you that I am very happy for you and to congratulate you for your ability to identify people of integrity for honour.”
General Gowon, the popularly said Nigerian who became Head of State at the age of 27, ruled Nigeria between 1966 through 1976 and was succeeded by late General Murtala Muhammed. He had earlier succeed the first Nigerian Military Head of State General Aguiyi-Ironsi.
His Administration slugged it out with Emeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, leader of the defunct Republic of Biafra in the Civil War of between 1967 and 1970.
He ended the war on a good note of ‘no victor no vanquished’ at a time First Republic Premier of defunct Western Region, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, worked for his government as Minister of Finance.
General Yakubu Jack Gowon felicitated with The DEFENDER and its partner organisation, Chartered Institute of Loan and Risk Management of Nigeria over their new move described as the first time an online media will prove to the world that online journalism is serious business.
Proprietor of Crescent University Abeokuta and former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Bola Ajibola (SAN) will be Chairman of the occasion where General Gowon is expected to a Special Guest of Honour.
Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Ms Lauretta Onochie and the Institute’s Faculty Member and scholar of the Department of Economics, Bayero University Kano (BUK), Dr. Mustapha Muktar, will present papers on “Online Media Approach” and “Risk Management Approach”, respectively, towards “National Integration and Economic Development of Nigeria”.
Others expected at the event include immediate past Vice Chancellor, University of Ilorin, Professor AbdulGaniyu Ambali, Commandant, Army War College, Abuja, Major General John Enenche, Permanent Secretaries of Federal Ministries, Director General of Federal agencies and many other doing well Nigerians.
