Nigerian Tulip Colleges showers of mathematics competition with scholarships, other Awards
The Nigerian Tulip International Colleges (NTIC), in its character on annual basis, has offered 100 percent scholarship for secondary school education to the top seven pupils in this year’s National Mathematics competition.
The competition was organised by NTIC in conjunction with National Mathematics Centre, Abuja for primary five and six pupils of schools nationwide.
The school also gave cash prizes of N300,000, N200,000, N100,000, N75,000, N50,000, N40,000 and N40,000 respectively to the winners, while their mathematics teachers also got N200,000, N100,000, N75,000, N50,000, N40,000, N30,000 and N30,000 in the same order.
The winners are Gnanasekaran Rishe of Indian Language School, Olawale Praise Oladayo of Bibo Oluwa Academy, Esemitodje Oghene Rukevwe of Mind Builders School, Akinyemi Funmilayo of Lords Mercy Nursery and Primary School, Odusote Abd Qudus of Migration Montessori School and Bright Onwe Chimereze of Gracefield Private School, respectively.
NTIC Ogun State Branch Principal, Ercan Yilmaz, while speaking at the award presentation ceremony in Alausa, said that NTIC which he described as non-government, non-political international educational institution operating 16 schools in five states of Nigeria, for 15 years, has been promoting effective teaching and learning of mathematics at the primary levels and developing greater capacity through National Mathematics Competition.
He stressed that the school is aimed at producing academically excellent, morally upright and socially responsible citizens for Nigeria and the world in general.
Yilmaz noted that the annual national mathematics competition had been ongoing for the past 15 years for all states in the country, adding that 39,600 pupils from 36 states across Nigeria participate in this year’s competition.
“We had 39, 600 pupils from 36 states across Nigeria who participated in this year`s competition and seated among us here are champions.
“As we celebrate the 15th edition winners of 2018 ANMC, I wish to inform you that various scholarships will be given today to these future changers; schools will be encouraged and so many mathematics teachers here will go home motivated and elated,” he said.
Twelve years old Gnanasekaran Rishe, winner of the competition while speaking with The DEFENDER, stated that he was surprised when he was announced as the winner of the competition.
He said he studied very hard every day when preparing for the competition with the assistance of his teacher and mother.
His father, Gnanasekaran, also said he was elated at his son’s performance, stating that he always assist him while studying for the competition.
He however said his son will not pick up the scholarship because he has already enrolled in another secondary school and that the scholarship should be given to another student.
