While some in their comments described the reported walkout as a sign of growing dissatisfaction with the Tinubu administration, others questioned the credibility and political motives behind the circulation of the video with many saying motives of circulation does not matter so long it is not fake news.

Worshippers at a mosque in Jalingo, Taraba State capital, were said to have walked out after their Imam, identified as Mallam Ibrahim Jalo Jalingo, reportedly defended President Bola Tinubu’s administration during a Friday sermon and urged them to support his re-election in 2027.

The incident, which allegedly occurred on Friday, October 30, 2026, sparked reactions after videos of the confrontation and subsequent walkout circulated on social media.

According to posts shared by ADC Vanguard, the cleric reportedly declared that President Tinubu’s government was not oppressive, prompting an immediate objection from a worshipper who shouted, “That’s a lie!”

The development was followed by what social media users described as a mass walkout by hundreds of worshippers in protest against the cleric’s remarks.

The incident has generated heated debate on social media, with Nigerians expressing divergent views about the involvement of religious leaders in partisan politics and the growing influence of political disagreements within religious spaces.

While some in their comments described the reported walkout as a sign of growing dissatisfaction with the Tinubu administration, others questioned the credibility and political motives behind the circulation of the video with many saying motives of circulation does not matter so long it is not fake news.

Some contributors also argued that religious platforms should not be used for political campaigns, insisting that places of worship should remain focused on spiritual guidance rather than partisan interests.

Others, however, maintained that the incident should be viewed within the context of the emerging political atmosphere ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to a respondent, “Rigging by Tinubu and All Progressives Congress (APC) under the current mass rejections in the North will be very difficult to defend. Let them just not try.”

The incident has once again drawn attention to the relationship between religion and politics in Nigeria, particularly the debate over whether religious leaders should publicly express support for political office holders during worship gatherings.
