Sultan of Sokoto Salutes Oba of Benin on 10th Coronation Anniversary, Describes Him as a King Par Excellence

Joining eminent Nigerians and well-wishers across the country in celebrating this significant royal milestone, the Sultan described Oba Ewuare II as a king par excellence, whose reign represents the enduring value of traditional institutions in preserving cultural heritage, promoting unity and advancing the welfare of the people.
The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, CFR, mni, has congratulated His Majesty Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, the Oba of Benin, on the occasion of his 10th coronation anniversary.
The revered Benin monarch marked the historic milestone on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, in Benin City, Edo State, completing a decade on the ancient throne of the Benin Kingdom.
Joining eminent Nigerians and well-wishers across the country in celebrating this significant royal milestone, the Sultan described Oba Ewuare II as a king par excellence, whose reign represents the enduring value of traditional institutions in preserving cultural heritage, promoting unity and advancing the welfare of the people.
In a statement signed by Prince Bashir Adefaka on behalf of the Media Team of the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence acknowledged the importance of the Benin throne as a symbol of the rich history, identity and cultural heritage of the Benin people, noting that traditional rulers continue to occupy a significant place in fostering peace, mutual understanding and harmonious relationships among Nigeria’s diverse communities.
The Sultan further expressed his goodwill towards the Oba and the people of Benin Kingdom, praying, “May Almighty God continue to grant His Majesty wisdom, strength and good health to lead his people with honour and distinction.”
He also prayed for the continued peace, unity and prosperity of the Benin Kingdom, Edo State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar wished Oba Ewuare II many more fruitful years on the throne, marked by peace, progress and the preservation of the cherished traditions of the Benin people.
