US issues fresh security alert, warns Americans in UAE, Middle East over escalating security tensions
The U.S. Mission said consular assistance remains available to Americans in the country through the U.S. Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the U.S. Consulate General in Dubai.
The United States has issued a fresh security alert to Americans in the United Arab Emirates and across the Middle East, warning of possible rapid escalation of the security situation in the region.
In the alert dated September 19, 2026, the U.S. Mission in the UAE said the security environment remained “complex” amid continuing tensions in the Middle East, with the possibility of unforeseen escalation.
It urged Americans currently in the region to exercise heightened vigilance and prepare for possible flight cancellations, airspace closures and other travel disruptions.
The U.S. Mission also advised Americans outside the Middle East to seriously reconsider travelling to or through the region, while those already planning travel were asked to monitor airport and airline operations.
According to the alert, Iranian-supported Houthis have engaged in hostilities against Saudi Arabia, including attacks involving civilian airports, with the conflict having the potential to escalate rapidly.
The U.S. Mission further warned that Iran and groups supportive of Iran could target U.S. interests overseas, including diplomatic facilities, businesses and other institutions associated with the United States and Americans.
Americans in the UAE were advised to avoid demonstrations and large gatherings, areas with heavy police presence and locations publicly associated with the United States.
They were also urged to keep their phones charged, monitor local media and official guidance, follow instructions from local authorities and maintain a low profile.
The mission further advised Americans to stay away from glass doors, windows and fallen debris in the event of an aerial attack.
The U.S. Department of State currently maintains a Level 3 travel advisory for the UAE, urging Americans to reconsider travel.
The U.S. Mission said consular assistance remains available to Americans in the country through the U.S. Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the U.S. Consulate General in Dubai.
It also urged Americans to enrol in the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive security updates and facilitate emergency contact.
