Sultan’s Media Team Thanks Nigerians for Support, Reaffirms Commitment to Peace and National Unity

The team reaffirmed its confidence in the Sultan’s leadership and said he would continue to consolidate his role as a respected national and international voice for peace, dialogue, religious understanding and peaceful coexistence.
The Media Team of the Sultan of Sokoto, on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, expressed appreciation to Nigerians for their continued support for its principal, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, while reaffirming his commitment to promoting peace, unity and stability in Nigeria.
The team made this known at the end of a pro-Nigeria assessment meeting attended by its members/media leaders drawn from across the six geopolitical zones of the country.
The meeting reviewed recent developments surrounding the Sultan and his leadership of the Nigerian Muslim Ummah, as well as ongoing national conversations on insecurity, religious harmony and the unity of the country.
In a communiqué issued after the meeting, the team said the Sultan, who is also Co-President of the World’s Religions for Peace, headquartered in New York, would remain focused on his longstanding commitment to peace, national cohesion and the progress of Nigeria, despite what it described as attempts by certain individuals and groups to distract him from his responsibilities.
The Media Team said it was encouraged by what it described as growing public awareness and a broader understanding of the Sultan’s position on national issues.
According to the team, those who, out of religious prejudice or ethnic sentiments, have sought to blame the Sultan for challenges that are primarily the responsibility of political and governmental authorities are, in its view, misplaced in their criticism.
The statement, signed by Prince Bashir Adefakavon behalf of the Media Team of the Sultan of Sokoto dated Thursday, July 23, 2026, noted that the Sultan does not control the military, security or intelligence budgets of the Federal Government and therefore should not be held responsible for decisions and actions within the constitutional responsibilities of government institutions.
The team said, “Those who, out of religious hatred and ethnic sentiments, have sought to blame the Sultan for problems that should honestly be directed at political leaders and institutions responsible for the military, security and intelligence budgets have laboured in vain.
“More and more Nigerians and people around the world are beginning to reject narratives that seek to portray the Sultan and the Nigerian Muslim Ummah in a negative light. It is increasingly becoming clearer to right-thinking people that the Sultan remains committed to peace, unity and the progress of Nigeria.”
The Media Team further said that it was encouraged by the support being expressed by Nigerians from diverse religious and ethnic backgrounds, stressing that the defence of religious freedom, mutual respect and responsible leadership should not be viewed solely through the prism of religion.
It said the growing willingness of non-Muslims and Muslims alike to speak against what they consider to be false narratives about Islam, the Sultan and the Muslim community was a positive development for Nigeria.
The team also observed that the emergence of different perspectives on the causes of insecurity, terrorism, banditry and other challenges confronting the country had contributed to a more informed public debate.
It maintained that truth would ultimately prevail, regardless of attempts to suppress or distort it, and called on Nigerians to seek facts, promote responsible journalism and avoid narratives capable of deepening religious and ethnic divisions.
The Media Team said the Sultan’s commitment to peace and national unity remained unwavering, stressing that his efforts should be seen as part of the broader search for a peaceful, stable and prosperous Nigeria.
It added that the Sultan’s commitment to a united Nigeria had continued despite the fact that he does not exercise control over the country’s military or economic resources, noting that his influence derives largely from his moral authority, traditional position and commitment to peaceful engagement.
The team reaffirmed its confidence in the Sultan’s leadership and said he would continue to consolidate his role as a respected national and international voice for peace, dialogue, religious understanding and peaceful coexistence.
The Media Team therefore called on Nigerians to reject divisive narratives, resist religious and ethnic provocation and support initiatives that promote peace, unity and national development.
It expressed optimism that Nigeria would emerge stronger as citizens continued to work together to address the country’s challenges and build a more peaceful and united nation.
