Counter-defections begin as Kano Senator dumps NNPP for ADC

By OUR REPORTER, Kano

This, according to many, has punctured the narratives that Tinubu’s idea of using governors defections as a took for consolidating controversial victory across the states of the Federation in 2027 as credible opposition he allegedly made effort to weaken are now beginning to spring up all over the places.

Senator Rufa’i Hanga, who represents Kano Central Senatorial District, has resigned from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), signaling the start of a wave of counter-defections in the political landscape in response to the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s alleged use of governors control as a political tool to consolidate “controversial” victory in 2027.

The lawmaker is expected to formally declare his allegiance to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition at his ward on Wednesday.

Hanga’s move is seen as part of a broader realignment among political actors ahead of upcoming political activities, with observers closely monitoring its potential impact on party dynamics in Kano State and beyond.

The latest development sen to be a bold statement by the opposition, which was officially started by serving Sokoto State Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal when, despite ruling party’s deliberate persecution with intent to allegedly weaken members from other parties from contesting with it in the coming general elections, he resigned from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the ADC.

Only 24 hours earlier, not only did Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso also take similarly bold step – shunning the attempted blackmail of being investigated for alleged corruption that is now synonymous with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) government – by resigning his own NNPP but also join the ADC.

This, according to many, has punctured the narratives that Tinubu’s idea of using governors defections as a took for consolidating controversial victory across the states of the Federation in 2027 as credible opposition he allegedly made effort to weaken are now beginning to spring up all over the places.
