President Tinubu hosts Sultan of Sokoto in private meeting at Aso Rock

It will be recalled that the Sultan, according to his media team, performed Umrah the Lesser Hajj recently in Makkah, during which he prayed for peace in Nigeria.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday March 15, 2026 received the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja for a private visit.

The meeting, held behind closed doors, took place without media access, and details of the discussions were not immediately disclosed.

Officials indicated that the visit was largely private. There was no press briefing after the engagement, and neither the Sultan nor the President’s media aides commented on the outcome of the meeting.

The Sultan of Sokoto, widely regarded as the spiritual leader of Muslims in Nigeria, is known to periodically consult with national leaders on matters relating to national interest, peacebuilding, and interfaith harmony.
