Five worshippers have reportedly been abducted by suspected gunmen who invaded a Celestial Church along the Owo–Akure Expressway in Uso, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Community sources said the incident occurred during a church activity when the assailants stormed the worship centre and forcefully whisked away five members of the congregation.
It was gathered that one of the victims managed to escape shortly after the attack, while four others remain in captivity as of the time of filing this report.
Details surrounding the incident were still sketchy, including the specific identity of the church and the condition of the remaining victims. Efforts to obtain official confirmation from security agencies were ongoing at press time.
The latest attack has heightened anxiety among residents of Owo and its environs, coming amid growing concerns over insecurity along the Owo–Akure corridor.
In recent months, communities in parts of Ondo State have witnessed a spike in abduction cases.
Notably, kidnappings were recorded in Eleyowo, a community along the Akure–Owo axis, as well as in Ilu-Abo, where residents raised alarm over repeated attacks by armed men.
The recurrence of such incidents has renewed calls on security agencies to intensify patrols and strengthen intelligence operations to safeguard lives and property in the state.
