“Shari’ah law is the Muslims’ prerogative, just as the US protects Christians” – Dr. Gummi

*Don’t let America’s Trump and Riley Moore push you into causing another Civil War that is religious for Nigeria, Tinubu warned

Among the talks about the Islamic law is one bothering on the rights of Muslims as some of the people say any effort to separate Shari’ah from Muslims is not only hypocritical but also a call for religious war that the current Tinubu-led Nigerian government must not allow itself to be dragged by some self-centered United States of American persons, who have no love of any Nigerian, to cause.

Nigerian Islamic cleric and medical doctor Ahmed Gummi has stirred fresh debate after defending the application of Shari’ah law in the country, describing it as a legitimate right of Muslims.

In a recent Facebook post, Gummi said Shariah law is “the Muslims’ prerogative,” drawing a comparison with the United States, which he argued maintains legal and cultural protections for Christian interests.

According to the cleric, religious communities should be allowed to uphold systems and principles that reflect their beliefs, as long as they operate within the broader framework of national unity and constitutional order. He added that criticism of Shari’ah law often stems from misunderstanding, misinformation, or deliberate misrepresentation of its intent and scope.

Beyond religious law, Gummi also addressed Nigeria’s ongoing security concerns, claiming that Muslims have become significant victims of what he described as “occult terror” driven by hidden forces. He alleged that such forces are contributing to instability and deepening mistrust among religious groups in the country.

His remarks have since generated discussions across social and political circles, with supporters and critics weighing in on the role of religious law and interfaith relations in Nigeria’s plural society.

One of them warned, “Do not forget that history has had how the scars of civil war experience remain a trust issue with a part that ignited it in the past and up till today. That part, don’t forget, also has a foreign nation among the colonial societies backing it in taking arms against its own country. The entire country is also alerted today as allegations keep flying that another man too in power will go down in history with similar, if not worse experience, that can happen should America’s President Donald Trump and his double standard Christian activist envoy in the Congress, Riley Moore, will be allowed to drag Nigeria into another civil, this time religious, against the country.”
