Lagos Governor appoints Oba Olufolarin Ogunsanwo as 6th LASU Chancellor

Oba Ogunsanwo’s appointment is for a single term of five years, effective from Friday, February 13, 2026, and is renewable once.
The Governor of and Visitor to (LASU), , has approved the appointment of His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr) Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo, the Alara of Ilara, as the sixth Chancellor of the institution.
The appointment follows the completion of the tenure of Professor Gbolahan Elias (SAN), who served as the fifth Chancellor. The Lagos State Government and the university community commended Elias for his meritorious service and the dignity with which he represented the institution during his tenure.
According to a statement issued by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Mr Emmanuel A. Fanu, the appointment was made in accordance with the provisions of the Lagos State University Law 2004 (as amended), Chapter L69, Volume 7, Schedule 1, which empowers the Visitor to appoint the Chancellor.

The Pro-Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor congratulated the new Chancellor on his appointment and expressed optimism about his leadership in advancing the vision and mission of the university.
