Sultan of Sokoto declares Tuesday 20th January 2026 as 1st Sha’aban 1447AH
*Ramadan is 29 or 30 days to come

From Tuesday January 20 equivalent of Sha’aban 1, Ramadan is 29 or 30 days away.
The Sultan of Sokoto and Leader of Muslim Ummah of Nigeria, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has declared that tomorrow Tuesday January 20, 2026 will be the first day of Sha’aban 1447AH.
This announcement was made via a statement Monday night of January 19, 2026 signed by Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu, Waziri Sokoto and Chairnan Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultan Council, Sokoto and circulated to the pressmen in Sokoto.
The one-paragraph statement said, “His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar CFR, mni, the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs+NSCIA) has declared Tuesday 20th January, 2026, as the first day of Sha’aban 1447AH.”
The DEFENDER reports that Sha’aban is eighth month of the Islamic Calendar and the month heralding the arrival of Ramadan, the month Allah specially chose for the Muslims to compulsorily fast.
