According to the respondent, who insistent strongly not to be mentioned, “Much as I am not advocate of godfatherism, let me state for the clarity sake that in the 2027 that I am seeing currently in Oyo State, only Governor Seyi Makinde so far deserves the right to determine his successor because, that guy is a performer.”

The Minister of Power in the Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Federal Government, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, despite controversies surrounding the administration acclaimed performance index, has declared his intention to vie for office as governor of Oyo State in 2027.

Adelabu, who is an aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said he’s running for governorship because “emi l’okan,” meaning that it’s his turn.

Emi l’Okan, though a normal Yoruba grammatical expression, first surfaced as a phenomenon at the tail end of 2022 when the battle for the presidential ticket of APC became tense Tinubu declared in an emotion-laden statement he made life in Abeokan speaking in Yoruba Language.

He said “O pe ti mo ti nsiwon bo. Emi l-Okan” (meaning: “It’s long I have been serving them. It’s my turn”).

In a viral video, the Minister said his ambition is not driven by personal or selfish interests.

He, however, said his aspiration to improve the lives of the people of the state is behind his drive to become governor.

Also speaking in his indigenous Yoruba language, like Tinubu, Adebayo Adelabu said, “I have been on this political journey for quite some time. In politics, I have learned that one may not always get what one deserves in a single attempt life and politics have both taught me this lesson.

“I have paid my dues. I contested alongside Seyi Makinde in 2019 and again in 2023.

“Today, I declare: it is our turn, it is my turn in 2027, as God has revealed it. Adelabu! Àwálòkàn! Penkelemesi Èmi l’òkàn.

“We will begin our door-to-door campaign in earnest, and by the grace of God and our collective efforts, victory is not only possible, it is certain.”

In the meantime, an anonymous respondent in Ibadan has queried what he described as audacious claim the minister “has just laid to the governorship of Oyo State when he is expected to know that performance is key in determining electoral rights and chances to attain victory in a democracy.”
