African Union sends special envoy to Burkina Faso 

The President of Burkina, His Excellency Captain Ibrahim Traore, received in audience on Tuesday June 17, 2025, Mr. Antonio Tete, bearer of a message from President of Angola, João Lourenço, Acting President of the African Union (AU).

The AU’s Special Envoy stated at the end of the hearing that “this is a listening, information mission to the authorities of Burkina Faso” to absorb the situation in the country and the entire Sahel.

“We came to listen to the President of Burkina Faso on the challenges facing the entire region and the country at present and to see what collective ways we can take as Africans to find solutions to the challenges facing every region of our continent,” said Mr. Antonio Téte.

In view of the security situation facing the Sahel, “it is normal that the principle of non-indifference of the African Union guides us to be interested in what is happening all over Africa.”

The Special Envoy of the President of the African Union said he was enlightened after listening to the President of Burkina Faso on the national situation and said he had examined with him “ways and means to always solidify the bridge between Africans and strengthen the spirit of African solidarity and a common destiny.
