Red Cross, UNICEF gift 7,500 aged men, women, venerable children with cash transfer in Zamfara

Over 7,500 vulnerable children, women and aged men have received cash transfer from the Nigerian Red Cross Society and the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) in Tsafe, Gusau, Shinkafi and Anka Local Government Areas of Zamfara State.

In an interview with journalists shortly after the commencement of the cash distribution to selected beneficiaries, Secretary General, Nigeria Red Cross Society Dr, Abubakar Kende, said the aim of the cash assistance is to support the vulnerable children, women and the aged to take care of their health related issues and payment of school fees and other basic needs considering the hard realities of life.
He further said, the cash transfer will support them to start small businesses and become self defendant.
Kende explained that,the targeted beneficiaries would receives cash ranging from N28,500 to N114,000 depending the size of the benefiting families with the aim to alleviate the hardship being experience by the lingering insecurity challenges in their communities.
Kende explained that the exercise is a continuous especially across the most affected communities that can not work on their farms and extremely poor to go to schools, as well as affording the basic necessity of life.
The Secretary General advice the beneficiaries to utilize the financial assistance they have received by given priority to their children’s education and health care services.
He said the program will touch other local government areas as even last year they extended the same gesture to selected vulnerable women and children that were affected by floods in Zamfara State
