Lagos’ new Assembly Speaker, Meranda, assumes office

Rt. Hon. Princess Mojisola Lasbat Meranda has officially assumed office as the new Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, after the impeachment of former speaker, Mudashiru Ajaiyi Obasa.

Meranda resumed officially on Monday January 27, 2025 with readiness to lead and drive legislative progress in the state.

By her successful assumption of office, it has now become clear that earlier reported move, by impeached Mudashiru Ajaiyi Obasa, to resume as speaker has failed.

It would be recalled that Meranda, who had been Deputy Speaker, was immediately sworn in as the new Speaker after lawmakers of the Lagos State House of Assembly impeached Obasa as their Speaker over a series of allegations.

With her assumption of office, Meranda has become the first female Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
