The Osun State Police Command said Tuesday that Isaac Fayose, younger brother to former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has confessed to have lied that he was attacked by suspected kidnappers at Gbongan Area of the state on Tuesday August 30, 2022.
Like to take Nigeria for granted as a lawless society where anybody can just wake up and put out a misleading information lying and nothing happens, Fayose had taken to his Facebook social media page that while traveling from Ekiti State to Lagos State, some unknown gunmen attacked his vehicle along with several others and abducted some persons.
According to him, many people were kidnapped while he barely escaped with damage to his vehicle.
He wrote: “Thank God for life !!!
“No life was lost …. Many were kidnapped
“Kidnappers in Gbogan area of Oyo state coming to Lagos. “No security in Nigeria at all.
“This is why I won’t vote Tinubu and Atiku they changed Goodluck to Buhari,” Isaac Fayose wrote.
Apparently responding to media enquiry over the Fayose’s claim, the Osun State Police Command said it was not aware of such incident as it was not reported to or anywhere within the command.
“He didn’t report to any police station in Osun State. We are not spirits to know what happen everywhere and everytime. The Facebook is not a police complaint/report station Sir. If we want more enquiry from him about the incident, because there are lots of questions that we will want to ask him, which can’t be asked on the Facebook Sir. Thanks & have a sumptuous day,” it reportedly responded.
The command, in a statement issued by its spokesperson, SP Yemisi Opalola, on Tuesday, said the report being circulated on social media was untrue as Fayose jnr had given them the account of what happened.
She said: “It has come to the knowledge of the command the circulation of a report on social media indicating that Isaac Fayose narrowly escaped death by the whiskers from gunmen attacks along Ife-Ibadan highway on Monday.
“The command hereby wishes to inform all members of the public that no such incident was reported in any part of the state.
“Members of the public are hereby enjoined to report any complaints or incidences to the nearest police station, not on social media.”
The spokesperson said that the command had contacted Mr Isaac Fayose and he has narrated what really happened.
“Mr Fayose stated that while he was on transit from Ekiti to Lagos State, at a point after Asejire Dam, towards Ibadan, he saw some travelers making u-turn for fear of being attacked by presumed armed robbers.
”And in his own attempt to make a u-turn also, he had a minor accident.
“He stated further that, he did not see the purported kidnappers, neither was anyone injured nor abducted from the scene,” Opalola said.
She said that the Commissioner of Police, Mr Olawale Olokode, has urged members of the public to always verify the authenticity of whatever information they receive via the social media before circulating it.
She further advised residents to ensure that they make proper report of any incident to the nearest police station in the state.

“Police in Osun, under the leadership of Olokode will not relent in their efforts to ensure that the citizens of the state and travelers are safe and their property secured,” she said.
In the meantime, watchers of events await what the next move by the police will be on Isaac Fayose, considering the manner of his post on Facebook page, which, they said, signified that he deliberately crafted the post to malign the sitting government in the country and further mislead the public and international community that Nigeria has no security.
“So long police, an agency charged with responsibility to enforce the law, would continue to allow reckless misinformation and mischievous way of faking insecurity like Isaac Fayose has done, it will mean the security and peace we dream won’t come by anytime soon.
“What are the police waiting for that they have not told us Isaac Fayose has been arrested by now? He should be arrested and prosecuted. What he has done has sections of the law it breaches. We are waiting to see how the police handles it,” one of concerned citizens, who reacted to the sad development, said in anger.
