Two suspected armed robbers were on 28th of November 2019 arrested by men of Ogun State Police Command while dispossessing commuters of their belongings on the long bridge along Lagos/Ibadan expressway, Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said.
The two suspects namely, Salam Faruk, male 18-year-old and Sunday Okechukwu, male 19-years-old, “were arrested at about 9:30pm by policemen on joint patrol operation co-ordinated by the Area Commander Owode-Egba Acp Irimiya Asimiya while trying to rob motorists who got stuck on traffic gridlock as a result of road construction going on,” the DSP Oyeyemi said in a statement he sent to The DEFENDER on Friday.
“The policemen, who were on foot patrol of the area sighted the two suspects who were armed with dagger knife with which they were forcing commuters to surrender their properties, they were subsequently chased and arrested before they could jump under the bridge.
“On interrogation, the duo confessed to have come from Lagos to the long bridge for the purpose of robbing motorists held on gridlocks of their valuables.
“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Cp Kenneth Ebrimson has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS) for discreet investigation. The Cp also directed 24hrs surveillance patrol on all the highways across the State so as to checkmate the activities of hoodlums who might want to be disturbing the innocent commuters on the highways,” he said.
