Yakubu Eleto writes IGP over plot to use police against client, Abu Abel

By KEMI KASUMU

Eleto called on the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria not to allow this idea of threat to his client to happen, “not to allow Mr. Abu Abel to be charged by anybody to court. Because of what? Because he bought land? We are calling on the Inspector General of Police not to allow his officers to mislead him and write frivolous report.”

Activist lawyer, Yakubu Eleto Esq of the Yakubu Eleto Chambers, has written a letter to the Inspector-General of Police in Abuja, urging him to stop the plot by some persons in Lagos to collude with his officers and men to cause arrest, detention and unnecessary prosecution of his client, Mr. Olasheni Johnson Adeyinka, over what he describes as trump up investigation bordering on land matters.

The letter with the attention of O/C Special Intelligence Unit (CSP Taiwo), dated Tuesday November 19th, 2024, received by the Office of the IGP, Force Headquarters, Area 11, Garki II, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja on Friday November 22, 2024, informed the police chief about the unfortunate cooked up charges to implicate his client and urged him to use his good offices as the nation’s number police officer to stop the unlawful act being perpetrated.

The letter with a subject matter, “The police cannot be used against our client and must respect the rule of law”, read: “We are solicitors to MR. OLASHENI JOHNSON ADEYINKA OF OBIMZY PROPERTIES hereinafter referred to as “our client”.

“Our brief has been secured based on threat of arrest and detention of our client on a property transaction between our client and Pa Samuel Adedoyin of Doyin Investment Limited, Chief of Staff Lagos State, Honourable Jide Akinloye and others despite the pendency of a Motion for Stay of Execution before the Federal High Court, Lagos State and other Court Orders with respect thereto.

“For the avoidance of doubt, we state categorically that the matter involving our client and the above mentioned persons are already pending before the several courts in Nigeria; Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos State, Lagos State High Court sitting at Eti-Osa, Lagos State High Court sitting in Osborne, Ikoyi, Lagos and the Court of Appeal Lagos Division and we therefore see no reason why our client should be threatened with arrest and detention the O/C Special Intelligence Unit attached to the Inspector General of Police.”

Speaking further on the matter, Eleto called on the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria not to allow this idea of threat to his client to happen, “not to allow Mr. Abu Abel to be charged by anybody to court. Because of what? Because he bought land? We are calling on the Inspector General of Police not to allow his officers to mislead him and write frivolous report.

“As at today on this Abu Abel matter, FCIB is biased, yes, and we are saying it from all sides of our mouth with all sense of integrity. If they are going to investigate, which case are they investigating again because the matter is already before the court not FCIB because of the fact that we had already written in the past that we had not confidence again in their investigation.

“We are calling on Director of SSS, we are calling on the Chief of Army Staff and all security agencies to prevent breakdown of law and order. And the Constitution of Nigeria is very clear; citizens are allowed to own property. Mr. Abu Abel has bought land and did the due diligent and got the proper documents from government.

“Please we appeal to the IGP once again to shelve the planned prosecution, arrest and detention of Mr. Abu Abel because Mr. Abu Abel has done nothing. He is just an innocent businessman. Rather than that, the IGP should beam his searchlight on the Ojomu Family and ask further questions on who signed the Deed of Assignment with Mr. Abu Abel.

“We also appeal to Lagos State Government not to hurriedly take sides on this matter but protect the governor’s consent on this land and see it is not transferred to anybody until the final determination of this matter in court so that justice will be served,” Eleto said.
