Ex-FIRS boss, Tunde Fowler, arrested, grilled by EFCC over ‘fraud’

The immediate past Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Mr. Babatunde Fowler, has been arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Fowler, a close ally of former Lagos State Governor and chieftain if All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was said to be facing EFCC investigators at the commission’s office in Abuja, the nation’s capital city, over alleged fraud.

The DEFENDER’s effort to get EFCC for confirmation of the arrest were not successful as at the time of filing this report, because neither calls were returned nor text messages sent to the anti-corruption agency were responded to.

Mr. Fowler was Chairman Lagos Inland Revenue Service (LIRS) until his appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari to head FIRS in 2015 and was relieved of his role as FIRS boss on December 9, 2019.

He was reportedly invited on Monday morning over an ongoing investigation involving Alpha Beta Consulting, a tax firm.
